Allocation of 200 thousand JDs for maintenance and restoration projects in Jerash

The draft budget law for next year allocated 200 thousand JDs for projects to maintain and restore monuments supervised by the General Antiquities Department of the Jerash governorate, according to data seen by Almamlaka .

 

The Director of Archaeology of Jerash, Mohammed al-Shalabi, said that the amount allocated to the Directorate of Archaeology of Jerash will be used to rehabilitate, maintain, and restore the archaeological site and several archaeological monuments.

He added that the Antiquities Directorate had completed all the projects in the current year, which included the maintenance and restoration of the archaeological site and other sites within the governorate and the tender for the rehabilitation of the museum of the Archaeological Jerash Directorate.

It also includes the introduction of a solar installation for the Jerash Regional Center, which is expected to be received by the Directorate in the first quarter of next year after being partially received.

According to Shalabi, the Directorate of Archaeology in Jerash completed projects for the maintenance and restoration of mosaic floors and drainage channels, the construction of basal walls, and the removal of dry grasses within the archaeological site.

He explained that projects for the sustainability of the sites of the Germanos Shrine, the Octagon Church, the Prquius Church, and the Artemus Temple, as well as archaeological documentation work, have also been carried out.

Al-Shalabi stated that maintenance and hygiene within the archaeological site provided some 300 non-permanent jobs for the governorate's people.

The capital expenditures for the governorate of Jerash for the coming year were estimated at 8.6 million JD under the General Budget Bill for 2023, compared with 7.69 million JD as visa expenditures for 2024. Next year's budget is still being approved by the Parliament for approval and publication in the Official Gazette.
