Last night, the United Nations General Assembly adopted, without a vote, four draft resolutions to strengthen the delayed relief regime, including one to assist the Palestinian people.
Under the terms of the resolution entitled "Assistance to the Palestinian People," the Assembly stresses the importance of emergency and humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip and the need to proceed with its reconstruction.
The text of the resolution calls on the international community to provide urgently needed assistance and services to alleviate the difficult humanitarian situation faced by Palestinian women, children, and their families and to assist in the reconstruction and development of relevant Palestinian institutions.
The Assembly also adopted a resolution entitled "Strengthening of the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance of the United Nations," in which the Assembly reaffirmed the principles of its historic resolution 46/182 of December 1991, which encourages the international community to support the efforts of member states to prepare for disasters.

In accordance with another resolution, entitled "International cooperation on humanitarian assistance in the field of natural disasters, from relief to development," the Assembly recognized the relationship between emergency response, rehabilitation, and development, as well as the need to ensure a smooth transition between the three phases.
Under the terms of Resolution IV, entitled "Safety and security of humanitarian personnel and protection of United Nations personnel," the Assembly strongly condemned all acts of violence, attacks, and threats against humanitarian personnel, the United Nations, and associated personnel.

The text of the resolution called on states to explore and expand measures for more systematic monitoring, reporting, and investigation of attacks against humanitarian and medical personnel.
