The media
meetings to be held by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States /
Media and Communication Sector - Administration of the Technical Secretariat of
the Council of Arab Information Ministers, in cooperation and coordination with
the Arab Commission for Satellite Broadcasting, will start on Tuesday in Amman,
under the auspices of the Minister of State for Media Affairs, the official
spokesman for the government, Faisal Al-Shboul.
Representatives
from various Arab countries, a number of officials in the media and
communication sector from the League of Arab States, and representatives of
Arab federations and bodies concerned with media and communication affairs will
participate in the meetings, which will continue until next Thursday.
Over the
course of three days, the meetings will discuss a number of important media
issues such as the role of the media in confronting extremism, the effects of
electronic media and electronic games on societies and generations, and other
related topics.
Minister of
State for Media Affairs Faisal Al-Shboul welcomed Jordan's hosting of Arab
media meetings, stressing the importance of Arab efforts, coordination and
joint cooperation, in confronting the issues and challenges that have recently
arisen in the media and communication sector, in order to protect the media and
Arab societies from their dangers.
Al-Shaboul
said that the Kingdom's hosting of these meetings comes within the framework of
supporting Arab efforts aimed at addressing important common media issues, as
part of the broader efforts being made to advance the process of joint Arab
action.
For his
part, the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication
Sector at the League of Arab States, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, expressed
his sincere thanks to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for hosting the meetings,
and appreciation to the Minister of State for Media Affairs for sponsoring
these important meetings, which dedicate, through the diversity and
comprehensiveness of its multidimensional issues the confident orientation of
member states with the active participation of organizations and unions
practicing media missions under the umbrella of the Arab League towards coming
up with practical and creative recommendations to enrich the Arab media system
and push forward collective efforts aimed at updating the joint Arab media
strategy to combat terrorism and tightening the mechanisms of its
implementation plan.
Khattabi also expressed the Arab League’s media and
communication sector’s aspiration to see closely the Jordanian national
experience in the field of media education, in line with the recommendations of
the 14th session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information
Ministers, which was held in Baghdad, and based on its paramount importance in
promoting sound media and professional concepts, Rehabilitating the younger
generations and immunizing them against extremist tendencies and behaviors.
