The World Health Organization announced on Tuesday, that 131
confirmed cases of monkey pox have been registered so far and 106 suspected in
19 countries around the world.
WHO confirmed that it is holding a research meeting to
support member states, according to the official website of the organization,
explaining that monkey pox can be contained.
It stated that the symptoms of monkey pox include fever,
muscle pain, swollen lymph glands, chills, fatigue and rashes on the hands and
face, indicating that there is no cure yet for the disease, but the symptoms
usually end after two to four weeks, and the disease is widespread in 11
African countries.
It added that the virus can cause severe illness among
certain groups such as children, pregnant women and people suffering from
immunodeficiency.
This disease is associated with smallpox but is usually
milder, especially the West African strain of the virus monitored in the United
States, which has a mortality rate of about 1%.
