With the
arrival of the blessed month of Ramadan, as a generous guest for Muslims, the
season of joy begins with fasting and decorating homes and streets by hanging
lanterns and decorative ropes on windows or homes entrances to bring joy,
pleasure to the hearts of all family members.
On this,
Professor of Sociology, Dr. Hussein Al-Khuzai, said that hanging decorations
and celebrating the month of Ramadan encourages children to love this holy
month and longs them to wait for Ramadan and do all that is required in this
month of worship, transactions and social solidarity, adding that the colors
and lighting symbolize religious matters and Quranic verses, and a message to
celebrate the month of Ramadan.
Al-Khuza’i
stated that Ramadan decorations reflect the extent to which children are able
to buy decorations appropriate to their tastes and teach them the skill and art
of buying, taste and good choice because it is a life skill that they must
learn, especially since each child chooses certain decorations and places them
at home, whether in his room or on the windowsills, and he called on parents to
allow their children to choose.
And about
the ruling on decorating homes to receive Ramadan, the professor of Islamic
culture at the University of Science and Technology, Dr. Muhammad Al-Mastrihi,
said: The eminent scholars have agreed that the basic principle with regard to
things is that they are permissible unless there is a legal text that prohibits
them, and the issue of decorating homes is a permissible matter, and there is
nothing wrong with decorating homes, noting that there are controls in
decorating homes in Ramadan, including that a person sees that hanging
adornments are a normal matter and not a devotional or belief.
He called
for care not to be wasted and extravagant in buying these decorations, because
wasting what you doesn't benefit from it is forbidden by Sharia, he stressed
that the adornment should be free of taboos and violations of Sharia, such as
the embodiment of spirits, and that it be free of forbidden musical
instruments, and not to block the road and harm people with these decorations,
so it become harmful and forbidden.
He added
that there is nothing wrong with decorating mosques because this act is
permissible, but the jurists stipulated that the worshipers should not be
distracted by adornments.
He explained
that there are ways to receive the blessed month of Ramadan, including asking
God that we reach Ramadan with health, wellness, activity, joy and pleasure at
the arrival of the month, good planning to benefit from Ramadan, and
determination to strive hard in obedience and worship, adding that it is
necessary to learn the provisions of fasting, read some books and listen to
some lectures so that he understands the provisions of fasting and welcome
Ramadan with repentance to God.
He added
that it is necessary to feel the virtue of Ramadan and its great reward in
order to distinguish between customs and worship, and to avoid wasting its days
by sleeping and its nights during the forbidden awaking, and the fasting person
breaks his fast until the wages increase, and he recites the Qur’an a lot,
which reflects on its meanings, preserves the tongue and the rest of the limbs,
and treats people well, and prays a lot for it is answered in Ramadan, and
taking care of the last ten days of Ramadan, because Laylat Al Qadr is better
than a thousand months, whoever realized it had a bountiful reward from God and
answered invitations.
Hala
Al-Mahmoud said that buying Ramadan decorations has become one of the Ramadan
habits that we are accustomed to to receive the dear guest, which is the month
of Ramadan, by purchasing the crescent and other forms to decorate the house.
She added
that decorating the month of Ramadan brings joy and happiness to our children,
as it spreads the atmosphere of joy and love by meeting daily for breakfast,
suhoor and family meal after Iftar in an atmosphere different from the rest of
the months, as family members are at work, it is difficult for them to meet on
a specific date.
