The Prime Minister's Health Adviser and the official in charge of the
COVID-19 crisis Dr. Adel Al-Balbissi reported a 45% reduction in Corona
infection of 1731 cases during last week's Epidemic 13, compared to 3171 cases
in Week 12.
In statements to Jordanian news agency PETRA on Sunday, Balbisi stated
that the number of deaths in the past week was 17 compared to 28 deaths in the
epidemiological week 12, a decrease by 39%.
Indicating that 45,728 PCR tests were conducted during week 13, compared
to 48,944 tests during week 12, a decrease by 6.6%.
He also noted that the number of cases currently hospitalized is 124
cases, compared to 183 during week 12, a decrease by 32%. While, positive tests
were 3.78% compared to 6.5% during the epidemiological week 12, a decrease by
42%.
The number of active cases was 1227 compared to 2175 cases during week
12, a decrease by almost 43%. The proportion of cases in the 10-17 age group
was about 7% compared to 10% during the previous week. While, the infection
rate in the 6 – 9 age group was 1% compared to 2% the previous week.
The National Vaccination Program reported that the number of given doses
for the first dose was 9884 compared to 8171 during the previous week, the
second dose was 17883 compared 12408 and the third dose was 6932 compared to
7784, with a total of 34699 compared to 28363 during the 12th week, an increase
by about 22%.
He pointed out that the total number of given first doses reached
4740611 with a percentage of 74% of the target group 18 years and above, the
total number of given second doses reached 4455974 with a percentage of 70% of
the target group 18 years and above, whereas the total number of the given
third dose was 634746 doses.
Regarding the vaccination in the age group 12-17 years, Al-Belbisi
explained that the number of recipients of the first dose amounted to 220056 by
25 %, and the second dose 176300 by 20 %, indicating that the vaccination of
the age group 5-11 years amounted to 172 for the first dose, and for the second
dose 84.
He stressed the importance of the obligation to wear masks in closed
areas, and receiving vaccination in first, second and third for those who had
been vaccinated for three months or more in order to control the
epidemiological situation in the Kingdom.
