House committee hails extension of foreign workers' rectifying status

Parliamentary Labour, Social Development and Population Committee on Thursday commended the Cabinet’s decision to approve the recommendation of the Labor Minister to extend the foreign workers' grace period to rectify their legal status for an additional month.

In a statement, head of the committee MP Khaled Abu Hassan, said this decision came in response to the parliamentary Committee's recommendation submitted to the Ministry of Labour, emanating from the panel's conviction of the importance of the extension period, and the future benefits to all sectors, especially the economic ones.

Abu Hassan also stressed the importance of boosting cooperation between the Committee and the Ministry to embrace plans and strategies aimed at regulating the labor market and creating an enabling environment for public - private partnership, in addition to encouraging investment that will contribute to reducing poverty and unemployment rates.
