China imposes sanctions on US organizations

Alanbatnews - - China said Monday it has imposed sanctions on some U.S. nongovernmental organizations, including Human Rights Watch, in response to the recent U.S. enactment of a Hong Kong law.

"Recently, the United States passed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, ignoring China's protest on the matter. This is a serious violation of international law and basic principles of international relations, as well as interference in China's internal affairs," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

"This time, China has decided to introduce sanctions on several US non-governmental organizations, including the National Democratic Institute, Human Rights Watch, and Freedom House", she added.

Last Thursday, US President Donald Trump signed a law prohibiting US exports of some police equipment to Hong Kong.
