Lower House condemns US statement on Israeli settlements

The Lower House's Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday condemned a recent US statement that considers Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank to be legal.
In a statement by its head, MP Raed Khaza'leh, the committee also denounced Israeli remarks on the annexation of the Jordan Valley and land north of the Dead Sea.
"Such statements are a flagrant violation and a breach of the peace process and would fuel the Arab-Israeli conflict," it said.
The committee underlined His Majesty King Abdullah's efforts at international forums calling for an end to the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people and preserving the Arab identity of Jerusalem and the legal and historical status in the city. It reiterated the Palestinian people's right to set up an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
