House panel calls on supporting Palestinian cause

Palestine Committee at the Lower House of Parliament met on Wednesday in London with British Rep. Tom Brake, the Liberal Democrat MP, and independent Baroness Jenny Tonge, to discuss the latest developments on the Palestinian cause.

During their meeting, MP Yahia Saud and the accompanying delegation valued the position of the UK Liberal Party, their continued support for the Palestinian cause, their vote on the recognition of the state of Palestine, and their continuing demand for a just solution to the Palestinian cause through establishing a Palestinian state in accordance with international resolutions and agreements, to empower the Palestinians achieve self-determination and establish their state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Saud also said the Jordanian Parliament is bothered by the UK's support to Israel's practices in Jerusalem, incursions into holy sites and disrespect to international conventions.

For his part, Rep. Tom Brake said: "British society is not against the Palestinian people and there is a large percentage supporting Palestinian rights," adding the Liberal Party is striving to change the government's positions to stand with the Palestinian people.

A memo will be forwarded from the Liberal Party to the British Foreign Secretary including the demands of the Palestine Committee, and highlighting dangers of the "Deal of the Century" on Jordan, Palestine, and peace in the region, Brake pointed out.

Tonge said the British House of Commons "does not support the political position of the British government," stressing that "the political landscape in Britain is troubled by its crisis to exit the European Union." 

Tonge indicated the growing hope of early elections, in the event they take place, will lead to opposing government policies, and thus change Britain's policy towards the Palestinian cause.
