Kazakhstan’s incumbent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has won Sunday’s presidential election with 70.8% of votes, according to official reports.

Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission announced these preliminary results at a briefing on Monday, adding the voter turnout hit 77.4% of the 12 million registered voters.

Tokayev's challenger, Amirzhan Kosanov, trailed with 16.2% votes in the first since former president Nursultan Nazarbayev stepped down suddenly last March.
