Chairman of the Lower House's Foreign Affairs Committee, Nidal Ta'ani, said Jordanians stand united behind His Majesty King Abdullah II in the historic Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Ta'ani, who met Ireland's ambassador here, Vincent O'Neill, said Jordan supports the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the of international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.

During the meeting, Ta'ani called for the need to find a platform to patronize peace, adopted by the world's influential countries , including Ireland, so that "there will be no unilateral peace".

The lawmaker also called for strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the economic and parliamentary fields.

Jordan is facing economic challenges due to its reception of waves of Syrian refugees, which caused pressure on its resources and infrastructure, he noted, highlighting the refugees' integration with the Jordanian society until their voluntary return to their country.

Ta'ani said His Majesty the King always emphasizes the political solution to the Syrian crisis, touching on the so-called "Deal of the Century," and citing steps by Israel and U.S. administration in this regard.

On terrorism, he noted this phenomenon has become a problem facing the whole world, as it has no religion and not limited to one state without the other.

In turn, O'Neill stressed the need to strengthen relations between the two friendly countries, especially in the economic field, adding his country will be Jordan's "high voice to resolve the issues facing it".

The envoy invited Ta'ani to visit the Irish parliament to learn firsthand on his country's parliamentary experience.
