Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, will remain an advocate of the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, emanating its national principles, said Speaker of the Lower House, Atef Tarwaneh.

This came during his patronage of a charity dinner held by the Higher Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza Wednesday evening , which brought together the engineers and contractors unions, during which donations were collected to support reconstruction projects in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking to the audience, Tarawneh stressed that Jordan's defense of the Palestinian brethren and Jerusalem aims to preserve the holy city's Arab-Islamic character.

Tarawneh also pledged to continue to provide various forms of support for any "meaningful" initiative to back the Palestinian brethren, adding:" We will not waver our constant stances in support of the Palestinian cause, in face of the occupation's war machine that continues to trigger destruction in Gaza and impose a siege on it".

He reiterated Jordan's stance calling for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, stressing the need to counter Israel's belligerent policies that threaten regional peace and security.

Domestically, he said Jordan has always been able to address the challenges and deal with the difficult circumstances, affirming the need to push ahead with the reform path.
