Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (APU) Atef Tarawneh said relations between Jordan and Iraq saw remarkable progress, embodied by His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to Baghdad and the visit of Iraqi President Barham Saleh to Amman.

Tarawneh made the remarks at a meeting with president of the Federation of Journalists of Iraq Moaid Aziz Allami, currently on a visit to the Kingdom at the head of an Iraqi media delegation upon an invitation by Jordan Press Association.

The speaker pointed to keenness of the Lower House to boost cooperation with its Iraqi counterpart, adding that both sides have common aspirations that prompt them to continue such meetings.

Both Amman and Baghdad face common challenges, mainly the war on terrorism," he said, adding that "we will continue supporting efforts to fight terrorism and its gangs.

Tarawneh reiterated Jordan's stance on regional issues, mainly the Palestinian cause and the need to arrive at a just solution to it based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Allami said the Iraqi media supports Jordanian-Iraqi partnership as well as the signing of economic cooperation agreements between the two countries.

The Iraqi media, he said, highly appreciates Jordan's role in the fight against terrorism and looks forward to an effective partnership that reflects on both peoples.
