Jordan's agricultural sector is vital for achieving sustainable development and bolstering food security, according to the Speaker of Parliament, Mazen Al-Qadi.

During a meeting on Tuesday with Odeh Al-Rawashdeh, head of the Jordanian Farmers Union, and members of the union's board, Al-Qadi emphasized the importance of supporting the agricultural sector as a cornerstone of the national economy.

Al-Qadi conveyed that parliament is committed to supporting the agricultural sector's demands and is open to engaging with unions and federations to address their concerns.

King Abdullah II gives great attention to the agricultural sector, recognizing it as a vital pillar for achieving self-sufficiency, especially in light of regional and international crises, Al-Qadi noted.

The union delegation briefed Al-Qadi on the obstacles facing farmers, primarily climate change and challenges related to marketing agricultural products.

Al-Rawashdeh expressed his appreciation for the Parliament's support of the sector, outlining the farmers' key demands, including exemptions from customs duties and sales tax on production inputs, support for local products, and addressing water, labor, and marketing issues. He stressed the importance of continued coordination to address the challenges facing the sector.
