Jordan has significantly advanced women's economic standing through legislative reforms, according to Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa.
Speaking at the launch of the World Bank's Women, Business and the Law 2024 report, Bani Mustafa highlighted the progress as a priority under King Abdullah II's Economic Modernization Vision.
The reforms include constitutional amendments protecting women from violence and discrimination, as well as labor law improvements supporting childcare and prohibiting wage discrimination.
Amendments to the Companies Law now mandate a minimum 20% representation of women on corporate boards, enhancing their access to top economic positions and financial services.
Bani Mustafa emphasized the importance of investing in Jordanian women's capabilities in entrepreneurship and leadership roles to benefit the overall economy.
She underscored that supporting women's economic participation has a sustainable and positive impact on development and growth.
The Minister participated in the report launch via video conference, during a panel discussion on legal reforms needed to accelerate inclusive growth, organized by the World Bank in Washington.
