Britain has authorized the United States to use its military bases to launch defensive strikes aimed at destroying Iranian missile sites and launch platforms, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Sunday.

Starmer, in a recorded statement, emphasized that London did not participate in the initial strikes against Iran and will not join any offensive operation at this time.

He noted, however, that Iran is pursuing a scorched earth strategy, adding, "We, therefore, support the collective self-defense of our allies and our people in the region."

Starmer further stated that the United Kingdom's decision not to participate in strikes on Iran was deliberate, asserting, "We believe that the best way forward for the region and the world is to reach a negotiated settlement."

Earlier on Sunday, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement declaring their readiness to defend their interests and those of their allies in the Gulf, if necessary, by taking defensive action against Iran.
