An Iraqi armed group, claiming the name Saraya Awliya al-Dam, said it launched a drone attack targeting a U.S. military base at Baghdad International Airport early Monday.
In a statement, the group asserted the attack on "Victoria" military base was in support of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the Islamic Republic.
The statement read, "In fulfillment of our religious duty and in retaliation for the leader Ali Khamenei, and in support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, our mujahideen launched an attack today, Monday, with a swarm of drones targeting Victoria military base at Baghdad Airport."
The same group reportedly claimed responsibility for attacks targeting U.S. positions in Erbil, located in the Kurdistan region, the previous night.
