ZARQA, Jordan - The Ramadan Youth Table Tennis and Chess Tournament, organized by the Ministry of Youth, has commenced in Zarqa, Jordan. The competition, part of the ministry's broader Ramadan tournaments held at youth centers, began on Thursday and will run until Saturday.

A total of 104 young men and women, all members of youth centers affiliated with the directorate, are participating in the tournament. The event aims to engage youth center members aged 12-30, fostering a spirit of competition and camaraderie during the holy month of Ramadan.

Chess matches are being held at the Zarqa Model, Dhuleil, and Russeifa youth centers for both young men and women. Table tennis competitions are taking place at the Prince Muhammad District Youth Center (for young men) and the Azraq Youth Center for both genders.

Omar al-Azzam, Director of Zarqa Youth, emphasized that the Ministry of Youth's Ramadan tournaments are designed to strengthen loyalty to Jordan and its Hashemite leadership. He highlighted the importance of promoting positive competition among young people and encouraging them to make constructive use of their leisure time by providing a safe and stimulating sporting environment.

Al-Azzam added that the Ramadan tournaments provide a valuable opportunity to discover talents, refine the abilities of young men and women, and instill values of commitment, discipline, and sportsmanship.

These tournaments align with the ministry's plan to activate sports programs during Ramadan. The initiative allows young people to spend their time in beneficial activities that promote fair competition and belonging, contributing to the development of their intellectual and physical skills and strengthening teamwork.
