Experts in nutrition, sports medicine, and fitness training emphasize the importance of moderate physical activity during Ramadan for maintaining general health, boosting fitness, and managing weight, provided that the timing and intensity of exercises are appropriate for fasting hours.
Specialist Ali Khalil noted that the best time for exercise is approximately two hours after Iftar when the body has regained some of its energy and fluids, allowing for safe performance of moderate-intensity exercises. He also mentioned the possibility of light exercises before Iftar, such as walking or stretching, while avoiding high exertion.
Nutrition specialist Rana Mansour stressed the importance of organizing meals between Iftar and Suhoor to compensate for fluids and nutrients. She highlighted the necessity of drinking sufficient amounts of water and consuming balanced meals containing proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats to support physical activity during the holy month.
Fitness trainer Hussam Adwan pointed out that adhering to a moderate training program and getting enough sleep contribute to achieving the desired health benefits without negatively affecting the health of the fasting person. He emphasized the importance of listening to the body's signals and stopping exercise if feeling dizzy or severely fatigued.
They stated that exercising while fasting is safe and beneficial if kept within moderate limits, noting that physical activity contributes to stimulating blood circulation and improving the efficiency of the cardiorespiratory system. It is crucial to avoid strenuous exercises during daylight hours, especially in hot weather, to prevent exhaustion and fluid loss.
The specialists affirmed that adopting a culture of exercise during Ramadan promotes long-term healthy behaviors and helps avoid weight gain associated with inactivity and unbalanced eating habits. They indicated that moderation in food and physical activity together form an integrated system that supports individual health and raises the level of activity and vitality during and after the holy month.
