Jordan Issues Safety Guidelines Amid Regional Tensions

Jordanian authorities have issued safety guidelines for citizens, emphasizing preparedness and caution amid escalating regional tensions. The Public Security Directorate (PSD) stressed the importance of public adherence to safety instructions, particularly concerning warning sirens and unidentified objects.

Firas Abu al-Sundos, Director of Operations and Training at the Civil Defense Directorate, affirmed Jordan's readiness to address various potential threats through a coordinated and comprehensive system designed to protect citizens.

The PSD reiterated that warning sirens are not merely sounds but an integrated early warning system reflecting the state's commitment to citizen safety.

Authorities outlined the meaning of the sirens: three intermittent blasts indicate a threat, while a single blast signals the end of the threat. The PSD advises the public to stay indoors when hearing the three-blast signal, or to seek shelter in the nearest building if outside. Staying away from windows and open areas, and seeking proximity to concrete stairwells, are also advised.

The PSD urged citizens to avoid large gatherings upon hearing the sirens and to refrain from handling fallen objects due to potential hazards such as gases or dangerous materials.

In the event of encountering suspicious or fallen objects, the PSD instructed the public to maintain a safe distance and avoid approaching or tampering with them. Specialized teams are equipped to handle such situations according to established procedures.

The PSD emphasized the importance of reporting any sightings of fallen objects, drones, or missiles to the unified emergency number 911, as well as any injuries or damage.

The directorate also cautioned against spreading rumors or unverified information on social media, urging the public to rely solely on official sources for information. It also stressed the need to educate family members, especially children, about the dangers of approaching or handling unknown objects.

The PSD underscored that compliance with these guidelines contributes to protecting lives and property, enabling authorities to perform their duties efficiently and promptly.
