Israeli forces are reinforcing their presence in southern Lebanon, the military said, as cross-border tensions escalate with Hezbollah. The move comes after reported Israeli strikes in Beirut and retaliatory attacks by Hezbollah on Israeli military positions.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are deploying troops to strategic locations in the area as part of an effort to strengthen defenses along the northern border, according to a statement released by IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee.

Earlier, the IDF said it struck the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh, targeting what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure. Hezbollah responded by claiming responsibility for attacks on three Israeli military bases. The group said it launched drones at the Meron air control base in northern Israel, damaging a radar system and a command building.

Adraee issued warnings to residents in southern Lebanon and the Dahiyeh area of Beirut, urging them to evacuate their homes. The IDF accused Hezbollah of engaging in confrontation under the direction of Iran and vowed to take necessary measures to defend Israeli citizens.

Hezbollah said its attacks were in response to Israeli strikes on Lebanese towns and villages, including Dahiyeh. The group also claimed responsibility for launching drones and rockets toward northern Israel.

The exchanges follow a period of heightened tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border. Both sides have traded fire in recent weeks, raising concerns about a wider conflict.

The IDF stated it remains prepared to respond to any threats and will continue to act to protect Israel's northern communities.
