OpenAI's ChatGPT has introduced a new feature allowing users to select from seven distinct personalities, tailoring the AI's responses to match individual preferences and professional needs.

This update moves beyond simple command execution, enabling users to fine-tune the AI's expressive identity. The goal is to align AI outputs more closely with the user's desired tone and style, according to OpenAI.

The available personalities include Professional, Candid, Efficient, and Nerdy, catering to various communication styles. Additionally, there are entertainment-focused options like Friendly, Quirky, and Sarcastic for more unconventional interactions.

To access these features, users can navigate to the Settings menu, then to Personalization, and finally select their preferred Base Style and tone. This customization extends to structural rules, such as using bullet points or prioritizing answer presentation, reducing the need to repeat instructions in each prompt.

According to OpenAI's communications team member, Edie Campbell-Urban, these features aim to bridge the gap between search intent and result delivery, enabling users to pre-set configurations based on their daily tasks.

Tests indicate that personality selection significantly impacts context perception. For instance, a Sarcastic or Candid style may provide more realistic and detached responses in sensitive situations like health consultations, which some users may prefer over traditional sympathetic language.
