The Governments of Jordan and Japan have signed an Exchange of Notes for a grant worth 800 million Japanese yen (approximately five million US dollars) to finance the procurement of modern medical devices and equipment for the Royal Medical Services (RMS). The project is designed to provide treatment for patients evacuated from the Gaza Strip to Jordan, as well as Jordanian patients, within the framework of the Kingdom’s Economic and Social Development Program with the Government of Japan.
On behalf of Jordan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan signed the Exchange of Notes, while the Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom, Mr. Hideki Asari, signed on behalf of Japan. The signing was attended by Brigadier General Dr. Sahl Al-Hamouri, Director General of the Royal Medical Services, along with senior officials from the Embassy of Japan in Amman.
Minister Toukan expressed Jordan’s appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their continued support, particularly in the health sector. She emphasized that this assistance strengthens Jordan’s capacity to respond to critical and emergency cases and to provide essential treatment for patients and the wounded arriving from Gaza, as part of the humanitarian efforts led by the Kingdom. It also contributes to improving the services delivered by the Royal Medical Services to Jordanian citizens.
For his part, Ambassador Asari remarked: "This step comes in support of the Jordanian Medical Corridor initiative. The medical equipment provided will not only reinforce the capacity of the Royal Medical Services to treat patients arriving from Gaza, but will also elevate the quality of healthcare delivered to Jordanian citizens and all others who rely on RMS facilities.”
