Al-Qawasmi: weak demand for clothes due to weather fluctuations and lack of liquidity
Al-Anbat - Sara Al-Azzeh
Member of the Amman Chamber of Commerce Board of Director,
Asaad al-Qawasmi said that clothes and shoes worth 65 million dinars were
imported during the first three months of this year, amid weak demand by
consumers.
During his speech to "Al-Mamlaka", Al-Qawasmi
expected price stability due to the accumulation of incoming goods, although
there is an increase in raw materials and there is an increase in the basket of
currencies and operating costs for the trader.
He added that the large number of offers and the process of
intense competition also led to maintaining prices and the process of price
stability for this season without any rise
He explained that the lack of demand may be due to weather
fluctuations because it is unstable between summer and winter, as well as the
lack of liquidity among consumers.
The liquidity was clear when salaries were paid in March, he
said, and there was demand and activity for consumer and basic items, not
clothes and shoes
He demanded that salaries be paid on 20-25th of the month of
Ramadan so that the citizen can provide liquidity and go to markets, and that
bank installments be deferred without interest and without fines
As regards postal packages and external electronic sales, it
is explained that they affect the sector as the sector continues to sell large
amounts of taxes, customs duties and operating costs, while postal packages are
substantially exempt from customs duties.
He pointed out that it affected the sector a lot, as well as
on the country's internal liquidity, as all of that liquidity was out of
Jordan.
