An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale hit the Indonesia's Mentawai Islands on Tuesday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

The Indonesian News Agency (Antara) quoted the EMSC as saying that the quake struck at a depth of 40 km, adding that no injuries were reported.
