Coup attempt in Ethiopia, army chief of staff wounded

- Ethiopia’s army chief of staff, General Seare Mekonnen, has been shot hours after a failed coup attempt was reported in a federal state north of the capital, Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, announced on Sunday.

Appearing on state TV wearing his military uniform, the PM gave no further details on the health condition of the Army Chief.

The Internet was cut off in Ethiopia and no information was available on the armed attack.

On Saturday, the government said there had been a failed coup attempt against the head of regional government in Amhara, one of Ethiopia’s nine federal states.
