Nayib Bukele claims victory in El- Salvador presidential election

The former mayor of the El-Salvador's capital, Nayib Bukele, won the country's presidential elections to become the sixth president since 1992 after the 12-year civil war ended.

Bukele, who was the candidate of the "Great National Alliance" , won 54 percent of votes against 32 percent for his opponent Carlos Calleja of the National Republican Alliance.

According to the constitution, the presidential term is a non-renewable five years, which allows new candidates into the presidential institution.

The 37-year-old Nayib Bukele, from a Palestinian descent, is the youngest candidate to run for presidential elections in El-Salvador.
