Kuwait Intercepts Drones as Smoke Rises Near U.S. Embassy
Kuwaiti forces intercepted an unspecified number of drones targeting the country on Monday, according to the state news agency KUNA, amid reports of smoke rising near the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait City.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, KUNA said.
Earlier, a Reuters witness reported smoke rising in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy. Firefighters and ambulances were also seen in the area.
The Director-General of the General Department of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Al-Mansouri, stated that Kuwaiti air defense forces effectively intercepted "a number of hostile aerial targets" near the areas of Rumaithiya and Salwa, KUNA reported. He added that "no injuries were recorded" and that "the situation in the country is stable and there is no cause for concern."
These events occur amidst reports of Iranian strikes on several cities in Gulf countries, reportedly in response to a U.S.-Israeli action against Iran.
On Sunday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced that at least one person had been killed and 32 others injured in the country. All of the casualties were reported to be foreign nationals.
