Drones Intercepted Near Erbil Airport, Home to U.S. Forces
Air defenses intercepted at least two drones early Monday near Erbil Airport in northern Iraq, where U.S. forces are stationed, according to a source.
Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, also houses a large U.S. consulate complex. Drone interceptions have become frequent in the area.
The incidents occurred as a group identifying itself as Saraya Awliya al-Dam claimed responsibility for a drone attack on the Victoria military base at Baghdad International Airport earlier the same day.
In a statement, the group said the attack was in support of Iran. It claimed the action was in retaliation for the killing of Ali Khamenei.
