Jordan Prioritizes Public Transportation Upgrade to Meet Growing Demand

Jordan is prioritizing the development of its public transportation system to address increasing demand and improve efficiency, according to the transport minister.

During a meeting with key transportation officials, Transport Minister Nidal Qatamin emphasized that upgrading public transport is a strategic necessity driven by population growth and rising transportation needs.

The minister stressed the importance of ensuring reliable service, improving operational efficiency, and ultimately establishing public transport as a primary and sustainable option for citizens in the capital and other governorates.

Discussions also focused on enhancing the operational efficiency of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines during peak hours by reallocating the fleet and increasing the number of buses to meet high-demand periods. The aim is to improve traffic flow, enhance the user experience, and optimize the use of available resources.

The meeting participants underscored the importance of developing the digital infrastructure of the transportation system by providing comprehensive and real-time data and information on bus and passenger movements.

Plans are underway to gradually expand the application of intelligent transportation systems to include all buses in Amman and across the Kingdom, including real-time tracking, monitoring, electronic payment systems, and in-bus information services.

These measures are expected to enhance transparency, operational discipline, and the ability to monitor and address violations promptly.

The meeting is part of the Ministry of Transport's efforts to modernize the public transportation sector and transform it into an integrated system based on data and modern technologies.

This initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and establish public transport as a primary transportation option serving citizens in the capital and other governorates alike.
