Oil Tanker Attacked Off Oman Coast, Crew Member Killed

MUSCAT, Oman - An oil tanker was attacked off the coast of Muscat, resulting in the death of one crew member, Oman's Maritime Security Center reported Monday, amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region.

The Maritime Security Center stated that the tanker, MKD VYOM, sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, was struck by a drone 52 nautical miles off the coast of Muscat. The attack ignited a fire and caused an explosion in the main engine room.

Tragically, one crew member of Indian nationality was killed in the incident.

The remaining 20 crew members were safely evacuated. The crew consisted of 16 Indian nationals, four Bangladeshi nationals, and one Ukrainian national.
