Israeli Forces Eliminate Hezbollah Intelligence Official in Beirut Strike

Israeli forces announced they eliminated a Hezbollah intelligence official in Beirut following a targeted strike. The operation, conducted Monday in the Lebanese capital, marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed group.

According to Israeli military spokesperson Ella Waweya, Hussein Muqalled, who held a senior position within Hezbollah's intelligence apparatus, was the target of the strike.

The operation comes amid heightened tensions, with the Israeli military issuing warnings to residents in several areas of Lebanon. These warnings included calls for evacuation near branches of the Al-Qard Al-Hasan Association, a Hezbollah-affiliated organization, and in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh.

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli military said it struck what it called a significant Hezbollah operative in Beirut. Avichay Adraee, another Israeli military spokesperson, announced the strike on X, formerly Twitter, stating that the military had precisely targeted a prominent terrorist element within Hezbollah.

The Israeli military also issued evacuation warnings to residents in Tyre, Deir Qanoun Al-Nahr, Mashghara, Bednayel, Deir al-Zahrani, Al-Sultaniyah, Toul, and Haboush, citing imminent strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure.

The strikes follow a day of intense activity, with earlier reports indicating that Israeli strikes across Lebanon resulted in casualties. Initial reports from the Lebanese Health Ministry suggested 31 people were killed and 149 wounded. These numbers have yet to be independently verified.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it targeted senior Hezbollah officials in Beirut and southern Lebanon. The military stated that the strikes were in response to Hezbollah's firing of projectiles toward Israel, initiating attacks on Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon.

Hezbollah, in a statement, claimed responsibility for targeting the Mishmar Hayarden base in northern Israel with rockets and drones, calling it a response to Israeli attacks.

The recent exchange marks a significant escalation since a ceasefire in November 2024. That ceasefire had ended more than a year of hostilities between the two sides.
