Rights Center: Thousands of Children Documented in Illegal Labor

Approximately 75,000 children are documented as working illegally or in unregulated conditions, according to Jamal Al-Shamayleh, the Commissioner-General of the National Center for Human Rights.

Speaking on the matter, Al-Shamayleh emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue, particularly concerning the estimated 45,000 children engaged in hazardous occupations, stressing that appropriate measures must be taken to protect them.

Al-Shamayleh stated that data collection involves committees from the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Social Development, and the Ministry of Education, ensuring a high degree of accuracy. However, he acknowledged the inherent difficulty in achieving 100% accuracy due to the challenges in identifying all working children, especially those in dangerous jobs.

He underscored the need to treat child labor in hazardous sectors with the utmost seriousness, irrespective of the proportion of children involved. Al-Shamayleh firmly asserted that the law must be enforced against those employing children, and no exceptions should be tolerated.

Al-Shamayleh urged the public to report instances of child labor to the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Social Development, or the nearest security center.
