Israeli Strikes Hit Beirut as Evacuation Warnings Issued for Lebanese Villages

Israeli airstrikes targeted Beirut's southern suburbs, specifically the Haret Hreik and Ghobeiry areas, resulting in significant damage and casualties. The strikes caused towering plumes of smoke and successive explosions, further escalating tensions in the region.

The Lebanese authorities reported that 52 people have been killed and 154 wounded in the past 24 hours as a result of the escalation.

The Israeli military had issued warnings prior to the strikes, demanding the evacuation of four buildings in these areas, alleging they were affiliated with Hezbollah. The military threatened to target the buildings unless civilians moved at least 300 meters away.

The number of displaced people has risen to 29,000 and is expected to increase as the strikes continue and evacuation warnings expand to more southern villages, ordering residents to immediately leave their homes and stay at least 1,000 meters away.

Hezbollah announced early today that it had launched a swarm of drones targeting the "Ramat David" airbase in northern Israel, hitting radar sites and control rooms. This action underscores the continuation of military operations despite the Lebanese government's decision to restrict the party's military activities to a political framework.

Tensions are high in Lebanon, with the government asserting its authority over matters of war and peace, while Hezbollah insists on maintaining its "resistance line" in response to the ongoing Israeli occupation. This disagreement poses a significant challenge for Lebanon, especially with the increasing Israeli strikes and warnings affecting more areas, leading to greater displacement and a worsening humanitarian crisis.

The nature of the targeted locations remains partially unclear. While the Israeli military suggests that the primary building targeted in Haret Hreik housed Hezbollah ammunition depots, Al-Manar channel reported that one of its headquarters was among the targets. The Israeli military has not specified the nature of the other three buildings. Airstrikes continue on the southern suburbs, extending the ordeal for Lebanese residents who have endured a night of explosions and warnings.
