Mrad: Independent Sunni MPs won't back out of their position
MP Abdel Rahim Mrad maintained on Monday that the Independent Sunni lawmakers will not back out of their position and demand to be represented in the new government, hoping Prime Minister-designate, Saad Hariri, will soon set a date to meet with them.
In an interview, Mrad said that the local and international political stances suggest some solution to the March 8 Sunnis, but that a meeting with Hariri had not been set as yet.
However, Mrad indicated that there might be an upcoming meeting.
"We will tell Hariri that 40% of Sunnis had cast their votes, and that this is a percentage that cannot be ignored," he said.
He also highlighted the importance of the role of the President of the republic, stressing that the efforts undertaken by Caretaker Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil, are still ongoing.
