His Majesty King Abdullah II, during his meeting with a number of dignitaries and residents of Aqaba Governorate and representatives of many sectors, said that Google International had chosen Aqaba as a meeting point for the paths of the undersea Internet cables project to connect the continents of Asia, Europe and Africa, while drawing attention to the opportunities in the communications and information technology sector.  so.

 For his part, economist Mazen Marji commented, on what His Majesty the King spoke, that the so-called "Aqaba Digital City" was established in Aqaba, which is an integrated digital city that provides a range of services, most notably;  neutral data center services, internet exchange point and other modern digital services, Such as the local and international link station, as well as the so-called neutral station for the landing of submarine cables, and this station is specialized in what the King in Aqaba touched on regarding the selection of the giant of the digital revolution, the "Google” company, for this station as a meeting point for the skills of the undersea Internet cable project within what Aqaba Digital City offers  The aforementioned digital services to be a "medium" link and communication center between the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa.

He added that the opportunities in the communications and information technology sector that Google may provide through the adoption of Aqaba Digital City and the local and international link station, will lead to attracting more local, regional and international communications and information technology companies, thus creating quality job opportunities that are also attractive to capital and high skills.  In this vital sector and gaining new technological experiences and knowledge.

And he indicated that there are no specific details and information at the present time related to the size of the expected investment, wondering whether this station for the convergence of submarine internet cables will be the largest or the only one in the region, or only one of several points distributed among the countries of the region such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states and others.
