Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a 10 percent subsidy for every Greek family's food purchases to help them cope with the burden of inflation.

"As of next February, the state will cover 10 percent of each family's purchases from stores and food companies for a period of six months," Mitsotakis told parliament before voting on the 2023 budget.

He pointed out that the cost of this support could reach 650 million euros.
Greece is scheduled to hold general elections in July 2023, but Mitsotakis noted that they could be held next spring.
