The General Assembly adopts 51 resolutions, one of which is on self-determination for the Palestinians

Today, the United Nations General Assembly adopted 51 resolutions recommended by its Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural), covering a range of issues, from the rights of children and women to refugees and others forced to flee their homes.

Among the approved resolutions was the resolution entitled "The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination," which received a majority of 167 votes in favor, 6 against (Chad, Israel, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, and the United States), and 9 abstentions.

The resolution stressed the urgency of ending the Israeli occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which began in 1967, as well as a permanent peace settlement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, on the basis of relevant United Nations resolutions and the Madrid terms of reference, including the Arab Peace Initiative and the Quartet road map for a permanent solution to the conflict. Israeli-Palestinian relations on the basis of two states The Assembly also stressed the need to respect the territorial integrity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

The Society urged all countries and the United Nations to "continue to support the Palestinian people and assist them in achieving their right to self-determination as soon as possible."
