Jordan ranks 81st on the Legatum Economic Index

A report issued by the Legatum Institute revealed that Jordan ranked 81 out of 167 countries according to the Legatum Prosperity Index for 2021, which is based on its assessment on 12 basic pillars in three basic areas of prosperity, with the aim of highlighting the strengths and weaknesses among 167 countries. around the world to identify the economic choices that must be made to continue building inclusive societies, unlocking innovation, and enabling people to achieve the desired prosperity.


In detail, the report indicated that the indicators included in the Legatum index included market infrastructure and accessibility, which ranked 75, while the economic quality standard ranked 119 and the natural environment ranked 149, in addition to the investment environment, which ranked 50, and living conditions ranked 59th, health 77th, education 96th, business environment 45th, governance index 78th, personal freedom index 121st, safety and security 77th, and social capitalism 123rd.


In turn, the economist Mazen Irsheid commented on the outcomes of the Legatum report in an interview with" Al - Anbat" by saying: "The attention given by His Majesty King Abdullah II in the green growth roadmap to work to raise Jordan’s position in the competitiveness indicators and the Legatum index of prosperity And global prosperity, by maintaining a clean environment and climate, using renewable energy, adopting modern technology for growth, and focusing on well-being, social inclusion, and sustainable services, which positively affect Jordan’s ranking among the top 30 countries in the Legatum Global Prosperity Index.


He explained that the importance of the Legatum index of prosperity and prosperity lies in the individual's interest in the prosperity of the quality of education, health, economic and investment projects and personal freedoms, pointing out that countries vary in expanding the scope of freedoms, quality of life and prosperity in economic and social terms.


Irsheed added that the index is concerned with the field of local and foreign companies from several criteria, most notably the quality of life and luxury in the country, attracting investments and giving them appropriate tax advantages, and their need for an appropriate work environment, in addition to the investor's ability to import raw materials and other materials from abroad and the restrictions imposed on them, in addition to the investment costs of customs duties and the incubating environment for foreign investments.


He continued, that there are many points that will raise Jordan's ranking on the prosperity index, the most important of which are the local currency, the strength of the purchasing currency and its compatibility with investors, and measuring inflation rates in the country, indicating that Jordan should work to create new legislation that attracts local and foreign investment, and obliging companies to use Renewable energy, and giving it advantages to companies that work on generating renewable energy, such as tax breaks.
