Al Mezan Center for Human Rights denounced the continued
systematic violations by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian
fishermen, and the arrest, on Tuesday, of four fishermen from the northern Gaza
Sea.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Al Mezan indicated
that, since the beginning of this year, the occupation forces have committed
291 violations against fishermen at sea, during which they arrested 45
fishermen, including 7 children, injured 16 fishermen, including 3 children,
and confiscated 14 fishing boats.
He pointed out that the occupation forces continue to ban
the entry of equipment necessary for the continuation of the fishing profession
in the Gaza Strip within the framework of the strict siege imposed on the
Strip.
PCHR demanded that the occupation forces reveal the fate of
the four fishermen and release them immediately, stressing that the
continuation of Israeli violations against Palestinian fishermen, such as the
repeated shooting and the infliction of dead and wounded among their ranks, the
continuation of arbitrary arrests and the accompanying deliberate insult and
humiliation of detainees, and the seizure and sabotage of fishermen’s equipment
and property, come In the context of collective sanctions and its systematic
policy to destroy the fishing sector as part of its general policy to destroy
the fundamentals of the Palestinian economy in the Gaza Strip.
The Center appealed to the international community,
especially the high-profile signatories to the Fourth Geneva Convention, to do
their duty and work to lift the land and sea blockade imposed on the Gaza
Strip.
