Meeting discussing stopping 57 stagnant majors in the unified admission lists

The spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and director of the Unified Admission Coordination Unit, Muhannad Al-Khatib, confirmed that the Higher Education Council held a meeting today, Monday, to discuss the report of the Civil Service Commission on saturated and stagnant majors.

Al-Khatib said that the meeting will also discuss the recommendations of the Council for the Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions and Quality Assurance, which erupted to the Higher Education Council not to include 57 majors classified as stagnant and saturated programs in the lists of unified admission to public universities, and to stop receiving requests to raise the absorptive capacity. For stagnant and saturated majors according to the classification of the Civil Service Bureau in the intermediate diploma and bachelor programs.

Al-Khatib expected that applications for unified admission to Jordanian universities will start in the middle of next week, explaining that the process of registering applications for admission to universities will be completely electronic.

He pointed out that the unit will launch its website updated with the data and information necessary for the unified admission process for the current academic year 2022/2023, especially the majors offered for admission.

It is noteworthy that the head of the Civil Service Bureau, Sameh Al-Nasser, said during a press conference last week that 39 specializations are classified as idle (not required); in universities and civil society colleges; It will stop receiving all those who registered after 2020, and the number of graduates in it is sufficient for the needs of the local labor market for a period of no less than 10-15 years.
