Jordan seeks
to enhance the strategic stockpile of grain by establishing new containers, according
to the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, Dana
Al-Zoubi.
Al-Zoubi
said to Almamlakah, that the Jordanian-Egyptian-Emirati partnership aims for
industrial integration, as 12 projects worth $3.4 billion were selected within
the first phase of the Jordanian-Egyptian-Emirati Industrial Partnership
Initiative.
She added
that the ministry's plan until the end of 2023 is to secure two years' stock of
wheat in containers, and a year and a half for barley.
She pointed out that wheat stocks in Jordan
suffice for 15 months, and barley 12 months in the Kingdom and on the road (import
agreements).
She
indicated that the ministry has weekly wheat and barley tenders.
In addition
to, she stressed that the Ministry of Industry monitors the strategic
stockpile, and has a computerized monitoring system linked with the Jordanian
Customs Department that shows the incoming quantities on a daily basis, and it
also follows up warehouse dealers about goods.
Al-Zoubi pointed
out that there are stocks in private sector warehouses because they import
foodstuffs.
