Al-kharabsheh: 28% Proportion of local sources' contribution to Electricity Generation

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh al-kharabsheh said on Wednesday that the contribution of local sources to electricity generation was 28%, renewable energy to electricity generation was 26%, while natural gas to electricity generation was 73%.
This came during a meeting (the Council for Partnership with the Private Sector in the Field of Energy) at which participants discussed the mechanisms for cooperation between the Ministry and the private sector in the framework of the Ministry's work to align initiatives and projects related to the sector with the vision of economic modernization and ways of meeting the challenges faced by the private sector working in the energy sector.

He underscored the importance of participatory public-private approaches to overcoming the challenges facing the energy sector, pointing to initiatives in the sector, including a road plan for the shift towards renewable and alternative energy, the development of power and electricity plants and the strengthening of connectivity with the region's States.

Minister Al-kharabsheh referred to initiatives currently under way that also include strengthening public-private partnerships, promoting projects, launching exploration operations and feasibility studies of precautions (Oil, gas and shale gas) to provide an enabling environment for investment, adoption of technology and solutions to reduce emissions, decarbonize and achieve energy efficiency, as well as the development of energy infrastructure (Smart power grid, meters, storage systems, tariff development by time of use, capacity building, capabilities, transmission and distribution lines).

For its part, the Director of Institutional Development of the Ministry of Engineering Shurooq Abdulghani presented the main axes of the energy sector and key performance indicators of the sector and aspirations to 2030.

In turn, participants stressed the importance of the meeting in discussing challenges and consolidating a collaborative and participatory approach to overcoming these challenges and helping the private sector engage in energy projects and take advantage of their opportunities.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Director-General of the National Electricity Company and representatives of the Energy and Minerals Sector Regulatory Authority, enterprises and companies operating in the sector participated in the meeting.

The Ministry of Energy and Wealth announced yesterday (the Private Sector Mining Partnership Council) to enhance the sector's contribution to GDP.

As for the Energy Sector Partnership Council, it deals with the challenges facing the energy sector and the private sector working in the same field.
