Juliana Al-Sadiq wins silver in Taekwondo Grand Prix

The national taekwondo player, Juliana Al-Sadiq, won the silver medal in the under-67kg category, at the Taekwondo Grand Prix Championship.

Al-Sadiq's coronation came during her participation in the first round of the 6-star Grand Prix championship, which was held in the Italian capital, Rome, and includes the best 32 male and female players in each weight.

Al-Sadiq managed to achieve 4 consecutive victories before losing in the final to French player Magda Viet Henin - the fourth-ranked in the world and bronze holder of the world championship in 2019 - by two rounds to one.

 Al-Sadiq, the seventh ranked player in the world, opened her participation by defeating the Egyptian player Maysoon Farouk in two rounds free of charge in the round of 32. In her second match, Al-Sadiq also succeeded in overcoming the obstacle of the Croatian player Bruna Voletic - European champion in 2021 and bronze holder of the last world championship - in two rounds for free.

The Olympic player completed her superiority in the quarter-finals and managed to defeat Serbian Aleksandra Perisic in two rounds, to secure a medal and meet in the semi-finals, the South Korean player Jan Dae Kim.

This is the third medal achieved by the champion Juliana Al-Sadiq in the Grand Prix Championship, as she previously won two bronze medals in Moscow Tour in 2018 and the Sofia Tour in 2019, knowing that the tournament was not held in the past two years due to the conditions of the Corona pandemic.

 This is the seventh medal achieved by the national team in the history of its participation in the Grand Prix tournaments, including two gold’s (Ahmed Abu Ghosh - London Tour 2017), (Saleh Al-Sharbati - Sofia Tour 2019) and two silvers (Saleh Al-Sharbati - Moscow Tour 2018) and (Juliana Al-Sadiq - Tour of Rome 2022) and 3 bronze medals (Ahmed Abu Ghosh - Moscow Tour 2017) and two medals (Juliana Al-Sadiq - Moscow Tour 2018 and Sofia Tour 2019).

Also in today's competitions, Rama Abu Al-Rub (over 67 kg) won her first bout in the round of 32 against Ivory Coast's Astan Catherine, in two rounds, before losing to South Korea's Lee Da Bin - ranked third in the world and silver holder of the Tokyo Olympics.
