The delegation of the national taekwondo team left on Tuesday, for the Italian capital, Rome, to participate in the first round of the World Taekwondo Grand Prix, one of the strongest and most important taekwondo tournaments in the world.

The tournament is classified as 6-stars, and it will be held from 3 to 5 June, with the participation of a group of international and Olympic Taekwondo champions of both sexes.

The national team will represent 7 male and female players in this tournament for the first time, as these players ensured that they were among the best 32 players in all weight categories, thanks to their many points and their remarkable progression on the world rankings ladder.

The national team lineup consists of male and female players: Mahmoud Al-Tarareh (under 58 kg), Zaid Al-Halawani, Zaid Mustafa (under 68 kg), Fahd Ammar and Saleh Al-Sharbati (under 80 kg), Juliana Al-Sadiq (under 68 kg), and Rama Abu Al-Rub (overweight 67 kg).

The national team, led by Coach Faris Al-Assaf, is looking forward to achieving the best results and continuing to reap the achievements as well as accumulating the largest number of classification points, which will play an important role in the process of qualifying for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The winner of the gold medal in the round of Rome will get 60 points, while the silver medalist will get 36 points, and the two bronze medalists will get 21.6 points each, compared to 12.96 points for each player who reached the quarter-finals and 9.07 points for the players who succeeded in qualifying for the round of matches 16, and in return, each player who participated in this round will be guaranteed to get 6.35 points.

The Rome World Tour will see the implementation of the new system for determining the winner of the fights, where the player who wins 2 out of 3 rounds will win the fight, instead of calculating the total points.

It is noteworthy that the Grand Prix championship was launched for the first time in 2013 and was canceled in the past two years due to the Corona pandemic, as Jordan won 6 medals during its previous participation in the tournament.
