The Security
Council held a session on Monday on what is happening in Ukraine, focusing on
the impact of war on women and girls, and how to protect the health and dignity
of women during the difficult period created by conflict.
According to
the official website of the United Nations, the Executive Director of the
United Nations Women, Sima Bahouth, began her briefing research by stressing
solidarity with the women, girls, men and boys of Ukraine, calling for an
immediate end to the war in Ukraine.
Buhouth pointed to the trauma suffered by
young women who left their homes at night and separated from their families,
and the constant fear for the future, considering that this trauma will risk
destroying a generation, which necessitates intensifying efforts to support
peace efforts between the two parties.
In its
session, the Security Council adopted the agenda of "maintaining peace and
security in Ukraine", while the session was convened at the invitation of
the US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Albania's
permanent representative to the United Nations, Farid Khoja, and was chaired by
Lord Tariq Ahmed of Wimbledon, Special Representative British Prime Minister,
Minister of State for Commonwealth Affairs and the United Nations North Africa.
