Petra records highest monthly number of visitors in wake of COVID-19

The rose-red city of Petra, recorded 23,751 visitors in September, the highest since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic last year.

According to the Petra Development Tourism Region Authority, the increased number of visitors bodes well for the recovery of the tourism sector in the city, and indicates that hotels, restaurants, local shops and tourist bazaars have resumed their work after being halted as a potential vector of the virus.

The number of foreign tourists is expected to significantly increase in November, due to the start of low-cost flights subsidized by the government.
