The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) will coordinate with Jordan's embassy in Algeria to support and boost the two countries' economic relations and address any difficulties facing the flow of trade between the two sides, ACC President Khalil al-Hajj Tawfiq said on Sunday.

Al-Hajj Tawfiq made his remarks during his meeting with Jordanian ambassador to Algeria Shaker Omoush, stressing that the chamber is ready to provide the embassy with any statistics or data related to the economic and investment opportunities available in the Kingdom, to be presented to the Algerian chambers of commerce and industry as well as stakeholders.

A statement by the ACC said that al-Hajj Tawfiq called for opening wider scoops of cooperation between the two countries' private sectors and activate vital economic fields such as tourism, trade and services with the Algerian side.

He also highlighted the importance of enhancing the two countries' trade exchanges, removing any obstacles and facilitating the work of Jordanian traders, exporters and importers to/from Algeria, pointing to some challenges facing Jordanian investors wishing to invest in the North African nation.

For his part, Ambassador Omoush indicated that the embassy will facilitate Jordanians tasks and communicate with representatives of the various economic sectors in the Kingdom in a manner that serves the country's interests.

Trade exchange between Jordan and Algeria amounted to JD45 million in the first 5 months of 2021, while it reached JD153 million in 2020 against JD83 million in 2019, according to ACC data.

The data also showed that the chemical industries, foodstuffs, plastics, aluminum and its products are the Kingdom's top exports to Algeria, while imports center around some food products, electrical machines and porcelain.
