A Russian airplane carrying 220 tourists is set to arrive at Aqaba's King Hussein International Airport at dawn.

It is the first in a series of scheduled flights to the Kingdom on a weekly basis and continues until the end of this year, according to a statement issued Saturday by the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB).

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Nayef Fayez said the arrival of Russian tourist will drive the tourism movement.

He stressed the Kingdom's keenness on the return of tourist groups to Jordan, in light of the Kingdom's high readiness to receive tourists from abroad, especially since the it was able to control the epidemiological situation and maintain low rates in the number of recorded Covis-19 cases.

Managing Director of the JTB Abdul Razzaq Arabiat said the groups of Russian tourists came through the "Travco Jordan".

He indicated that tourists will continue to arrive in Aqaba, successively, under the current circumstances, and the Russian aviation authorities removed Jordan from the list of countries vulnerable to the Coronavirus, which encouraged its citizens to travel to the Kingdom, pointing out that the arrival of foreign tourists delegations reflects positive future results for the tourism movement in the Kingdom.

Arabiat stressed that the government's measures and incentives granted to airplanes coming to Aqaba remarkably contribute to the increase in incoming tourism, noting that the JTB follows a policy of support by attracting charter flights within King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba Special Economic City.

"We expect an increase in the number of Russian airplanes carrying tourists coming to the Kingdom during the coming period," Arabiat said.

"The arrival of tourists comes as a result of joint efforts undertaken by Travco and the JTB," Travco General Manager, Paolo Nocerino said.

He added that Travco is working hard in the Russian markets, which has created a suitable destination in Jordan as a tourist destination.
